I took some buyers out to look for a home in the mountains where most of the homes are on a well. A couple of days later, she found a home that she was excited about and had some questions about it, but her questions did not include the water source which is always important! The MLS description didn’t include it, so I asked the seller’s agent what the well production was and it was 1-2 gallons/minute with a holding tank.
My husband has always told me that 20 gallons/minute is premium, so I looked around and found that 5-6 gallons/minute is sufficient. A friend of mine said that she grew up on 3 gallons/minute and her dad would tell them to take “military” showers, so if you can live with that, then great, but if not, you will want to make sure it produces more.
I found a great article from a well drilling company that describes what each person uses/day and what the various appliances and fixtures use in homes. I hope you enjoy reading the article and be sure you ask what the well produces when you are buying a home!
